Campus Renovation, St Francis de Sales Catholic Church
Lansing, KS
The Parish of Saint Francis de Sales built a new church in 2009 next to their previous church building which they had outgrown. This previous building became the Parish Hall with only the existing pews being removed. Its kitchen is undersized, bathrooms are outdated and not meeting today’s standards, and classrooms were well worn with failing accordion folding partitions. The hall has fallen short to effectively serve the parish’s faith formation classes, events, and programs that they wanted to be able to host and support.
Pluribus took on the task of imagining what needed to be done to update the entirety of the campus to what the community saw to be beneficial. The main goals that the parish had expressed were to update the existing kitchen, restrooms, and parish hall spaces, create better classroom and meeting spaces for faith formation and other church programs by renovating the church’s basement, and connecting the new church and the parish hall with a narthex. Upon doing a feasibility study with the parish, it was determined that there would be a current and future phase, with the priority being to renovate the existing parish hall and putting the basement renovation and new narthex as future goals for the parish. A budget was determined by the Saint Francis de Sales parish, and after pricing the new design it was determined that the offices could afford to be renovated as well. With this new plan for the parish hall, they would be setting themselves up for the future of their community, with the ability to accommodate growth of the faith formation program, large events, designated meeting spaces, and a more efficient office space.
Pluribus was able to meet the parish where they were by assessing what was majorly lacking and what just needed a bit of updating to meet current and future needs without rejecting the traditions, comfort, and flexibility that the parish appreciated in their facilities. They were able to see what the future of Saint Francis de Sales could look like and know how possible it was for them to achieve. Pluribus is currently assisting Saint Francis de Sales with their capital campaign for this renovation through renderings and drawings, 360 panoramic views, budgeting, and narrative.
