Wedding Venue
Kansas City, MO
Located within the Crossroads Arts District on the intersection of Central Street and 19th Street, 1821 Central transforms an existing warehouse into a mixed use event venue supporting weddings, corporate events, and receptions. The design preserves the industrial character of the building while contributing to the broader revitalization efforts within the Crossroads district.
The split level entry condition drove the spatial organization. The main entry is a split-level landing that connects the main event space through a public lobby/terrace on the upper level. The lower level consists of a cocktail lounge with a bar, as well as the bride/groom suite. Supporting spaces for this project include a catering/warming kitchen, storage, and ADA compliant restrooms. A secondary egress stair, primarily used by staff for food and drink delivieries, helps separate traffic to make ease congestion at the main stair entry.
A key challenge was integrating this program within the constraints of the existing structure. The design prioritizes an efficient layout that maximizes usable space while limiting the need for major structural modifications. Accessibility was also a critical consideration. The inclusion of an ADA vertical lift ensures an inclusive environment for all guests. This project reflects a thoughtful approach to adaptive reuse, balancing design and function to support the continued growth of the Crossroads District.
